The lighthouse can be seen from the best angle in the Harmankaya District, located to the east of Şile Lighthouse. If you want to take photograph of the lighthouse in the morning, you can take advantage of the soft morning light coming from the east. If you take photograph a few hours before sunset, the light would come from the west and you would benefit from the reverse light. The lighthouse also looks very impressive during blue hours. Şile Lighthouse has been guiding sailors for more than 150 years.
The lighthouse, located on the top of a 60-meter-high cliff in the northeast of Şile city centre, is among the first symbols that come to mind about Şile. It was built by the Ottoman Sultan Abdülmecid I to French engineers in 1859. The lighthouse chamber is in the form of an octagonal prism and rises above a 19-meter tower. The top of the lighthouse is reached with 72 steps. Ancient lamps, gas lamps, toolkit, lantern oil pots are exhibited in the museum in the lighthouse. The museum is open to visitors every day except Mondays.
