Kocakuş recreation area is approximately 9.5 kilometres away from Şile center. You can reach the area from the Kızılca village road junction on the Şile Ömerli highway. Kocakuş is a very large recreation area through which a small creek runs. While black alder (Alnus glutinosa) and the narrow-leafed (Fraxinus angustifolia ssp. Angustifolia) are dense in areas closer to the water in the field, common oak (Quercus robur), Hungarian oak (Quercus frainetto), linden (Tilia argentea) are observed in the upper parts. Forest birds such as robin (Erithacus rubecula), Eurasian jay (Garrulus glandarius), Syrian woodpecker (Dendrocopus syriacus) can be observed in all seasons. You can also observe throughout the winter months the birds like hawfinch (Coccothraustes coccothraustes) and siskin (Spinus spinus).
