Maşatlık Park is not only a resting area but also a shelter for birds. The park is located next to the second largest crested cormorant colony in Istanbul. This bird species nests on cliffs, sea caves and rocky islets and feeds in the deep and clear waters in the immediate vicinity. Mediterranean Shag here (Phalacrocorax arsitotelis desmarestti) is a subspecies of the European Shag (Phalacrocorax arsitotelis) and seen in the Mediterranean Basin and Black Sea across the world. Approximately 50 pairs of crested cormorants breed in the field. Crested cormorants begin to mate in January and may be seen until late May. Disturbing the birds during the breeding period may cause the loss of their offspring.

It is also possible to observe, from this point, different types of seagulls that spend the winter in Şile. Especially yellow-legged gulls and black-headed gulls are regulars of the region. In addition to these species, the Mediterranean gull, black-backed gull, common gull and great black-headed gull can be seen during the winter and migration periods, even rarely. Some mornings, black-footed seagulls can be seen in the harbour behind the fishing boats, while shearwater bird flocks can be watched in the open sea. Careful birdwatchers can photograph grebe species and coots around the islets.
